My mom would have never seen this coming

I grew up in a small town in Maryland.  The type of town you plot to leave as soon as you are able to.  My parents have 10 acres of land.  Although it was never a classic farm (both of my parents worked regular jobs), we always had something growing.  I grew up exploring the woods and stream around their homestead.  As a teenager I coveted my friends' homes in the local subdivision.  They could walk to their friends' houses, had someone to hang out with at the bus stop and even had cable TV...all important things when you're 13.  I COULD NOT WAIT to get out of "the country".  I had dreams of New York City from an early age.  I was going to design school and then, of course, a big job with lots of celebrity clients.  Instead I ended up at the University of Maryland, about 45 minutes away from my parents' home.  Not THE big city I dreamed of, but bigger and close to D.C.  At 18 it was exciting to have a 24-hour convenience store and it was less than 5 minutes away, not the usual 20 minute drive to a grocery store.  Funny now the city things I found exciting.

Flash forward almost 20 years and my life is much different than I ever imagined.  My 18-year-old self would have laughed and laughed and laughed if given a view in a crystal ball.   Now married for almost 19 years, a 6-year old son and now jumping into urban farming.

I can still hear my former self laughing....or maybe that's my mother.  She too finds it almost comical the turns my life have taken.
