So, what the heck is art journaling?
In my world art journal is an everyday term, but not everyone knows what I'm talking about. Last year I was at an art workshop and we were using ALOT of paint. When we would break for lunch I would look around and see all of these palettes of paint that would dry up before we came back from lunch. So I did the only thing that seemed reasonable (in my head), I started smooshing the extra paint in my journal and on any other paper I could find. That's when the questions started...."what are you doing?" , "what is that book?", "what are you going to do with all of that paper?".
I shared my journal and explained that the extra paper could become collage material. There were still alot of confused looks. I quickly realized that it is difficult to explain what art journaling is because it can be something different for each person.
Those of you who have seen my art journals know that I don't write or journal in them very much. I use my journals as art inspiration.....trying out new products, testing new stamps and stencils, experimenting with a new technique. My journals lead me to finished works on canvas.
Other people use their journals for art but also to capture journaling. Some may journal about their days, others may use it more as a diary. Maybe they journal and then paint over it.
This is just one more reason I love art journaling....it can be whatever you want or need it to be.
Do you art journal?
