How do they do it?

As you can tell I have struggled with keeping a blog.  It's not that I don't have things to say.  I just can always think of something else I need to do besides sitting down at the computer.  I know my time constraints and to-do lists are nothing unusual.  Any mom out there knows exactly what I'm talking about, so you don't need the details.  I also am not one of those moms who never takes time for herself, putting everyone else's needs first.  So why can't I just take some of that time to keep up with my blog?

Lately I've read several articles about people who have a routine to their creative time.  One author has set "office hours".  A photographer makes her morning coffee and then heads out to the garden to capture the morning light.  Then I see an article about a painter who creates a still life painting EVERY DAY.  Every day!!  A detailed, complete oil painting in a day.  When I checked out her website, I looked through her gallery, but then went to her info page.  I just had to see.....did she have a husband or kids?  No mention of either.  AHA!  I haven't finished an entire piece in months, but I do have a fairly spoiled hubby, a well-adjusted son and a house that may not be spotless, but none of us have caught any flesh-eating bacteria either.

So, why don't I use some of my time for my creativity projects?  I choose not to, obviously.  As with everything else, time requires some trade-offs.  Hopefully now that I have thought about it, I will choose to sit here a little more often.

P.S. - if you want to check out the website for the daily oil painter, here it is  Abbey Ryan

  1. To be fair you are a very busy woman! I like your blog I did not realize it was yours I was reading I just thought it was a link. I have one too but have not opened itnto the public nor have I put much anything into it yet. Maybe writing in it again would help organize my thoughts!and get my creative juices flowing again!
