My favorite art journaling supplies
I usually get asked what are my favorite things to use for art journaling. If you've seen my journals, you know that I am willing to use just about anything, but here are my basic favorites....
Dylusions art journals
Although I have many different types of journals, this is the one I always recommend to a new art journaler. The paper is heavy enough to handle lots of products without buckling or bleeding through. The paper is also smooth so you get great results with any product you use. It is also well-bound and can handle alot of "alligatoring" (spreading out when you have thicker pages).
Liquitex gesso
I prefer a fluid gesso to coat my pages. I can quickly skim coat my pages with a gift card or brush and it drys quickly. I also love that Liquitex brand comes with a flip top, so I can just squeeze some out instead of having to dig around in a jar.
Dina Wakley Media paints
This are by far my favorite paints for art journaling. It comes in a wide variety of colors and the colors work well together. They are highly pigmented paints, so with a coat of gesso I can get away with one coat of paint for an opaque finish.
Stencils
I LOVE LOVE LOVE stencils. They allow you to get some pattern on a page quickly. I don't have a favorite brand and I buy all different sizes.
Stabillo-All pencil in black
This is always in my tool kit. It is a dark black pencil that is water soluble, perfect for creating shadows to add dimension.
POSCA paint pens
These are my go to pen for art journaling. They write smoothly over dried acrylic paint and are perfect for mark making. They are also available in many colors and tip sizes.
I have to cut myself off there. I have so many other products that I love to use, but I'll post more later. What are your favorite supplies?
