My love of Mason jars and Mercury glass is spreading around the house

Two things I love are Mason jars and Mercury glass.  The former is a fairly new love.  Since the JAM-boree of 2013, I have had lots of Mason jars sitting around.  I love perusing Pinterest in search of new ways to use them.  My love of Mercury glass goes farther back.  I have a few pieces of vintage glass, but most of my collection is the newer stuff.  I don't really care because I just love how it looks.  I think I love it because it reminds me of my childhood and some of the pieces my grandmother had.

Recently I've seen a few DIYs about making your own Mercury glass (or at least the look of it).  That set me looking for glass items in my house that NEEDED to get some silver paint.  My eye landed on  a stash of empty jelly jars.  About the same time I saw this great tutorial about making a porch light with Mason jars.  So, you can probably guess what happened next.....

Our porch light is old, cheap and the paint is flaking off.  I just haven't found one I like enough to spend the money on.

The supplies I used.....wired grapevine and burlap ribbon from Hobby Lobby.  Also a light socket to outlet convertor for the light.  I found this at my local hardware store.  Plus there were also the six jars I had treated with the faux Mercury glass

I twisted the grapevine wire around each jar (without the screw-on-ring), making sure it was tight around the rim.  Then I screwed on the lids.

Outside I unscrewed the bulb from the light and added the outlet convertor.  I plugged in one strand of Christmas lights.

Then with some more grapevine wire, I hung the jars one-by-one until I liked how they looked.  As I hung each one, I pushed about 10-15 lights into each jar.  The burlap ribbon is wired on at the top and then just thread through the jars and loops.  I also found the burlap flowers at Hobby Lobby, so I added those for a little extra.

It even looks great at night.  It's not super-bright, but we have other outside lights.  I just love looking at it.
